Banana Slug Share: How to Make Your Own Kombucha (Or, Honey, what's that gross thing in the back of the closet?)
Are you tired of spending $4 a bottle for kombucha from your hipster grocery store? After this workshop you'll know how to get your daily fix for pennies per gallon. We'll go over the equipment you need, the basic ingredients, and the history of this ancient fermented beverage. We'll even touch on some kombucha culture controversy! There will be time at the end for Q&A and to exchange some war stories.
Michael Riepe (Oakes, ‘91) earned a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Oakes College before going on to attend the Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan for his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Since then, he has worked as a Senior Principal Engineer at Achronix Semiconductor, and as a Software Architect and Consulting Engineer at Magma Design Automation Inc. He is a Past President of the UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association. Michael lives in San Jose, CA, and enjoys skiing, cycling, trail running, and cooking.
